Squat 101 - for Pregnancy Yoga Teachers and Birth Professionals

To Squat or not to Squat?  Best Practice & Recommendations.

Certified 3 Hour Training with Nadia Rafaat

This training has been designed for all perinatal birth educators including pre and postnatal yoga, pilates and fitness professionals, midwives, doulas and other birth professionals  to give a strong skill set for understanding the squat in pregnancy and birth.

To Squat or Not to Squat?

This training aims to clearing up the ambiguity and confusion around the squat. In recent months, the squat has gone from being a golden pregnancy pose to a contraindicated pose with the position being blamed for posterior presentation.   Consequently there is a lot of nervousness in the pregnancy yoga teaching community. Uninformed teaching, lack of information and unobserved zoom classes has meant that a lot of women are performing unhelpful and uncomfortable squats.   However the squat remains a functional posture that can and should be taught in pregnancy classes to offer women the full range of pregnancy possibilities. It does need to be taught properly, experienced pain free and different body types and lifestyles accounted for.

Squat 101 aims to bring the squat fully into the spotlight, unpack it anatomically, explore its functional role in pregnancy and childbirth, show ways to prepare for it accounting for structural differences and offer sequences and variations for all body types.

This key pregnancy and birth pose should not be eliminated — simply understood.

In this workshop you will:

  • Take a closer look at the anatomy of the squat
  • Explore the squat’s functional role in pregnancy and childbirth
  • Experience different variations of the squat and intelligent substitutions
  • Learn how to properly prepare for effective squatting
  • Experience a range of squatting sequences to teach in your pregnancy classes
